Yoga Shala Wellness is pleased to welcome the arrival of Jo Whitsell, MS, L.Ac, an Oregon state licensed acupuncturist. Jo has recently moved back to her hometown of Portland to start anew after having run a successful wellness clinic in New York for the past 8 years. Jo offers an effective approach towards physical, mental and spiritual integration and health that incorporates post-graduate training in acupuncture, homeopathy, western & chinese herbs, western nutrition, and various mind/body modalities. She has treated hundreds of patients with varying issues that include fertility, sports medicine, GI tract disorders and anxiety. One of Jo's specialties is the treatment of women for a wide variety of conditions including infertility, PMS, hot flashes, anxiety, menstrual problems, PCOS, eating disorders and fibroids. Known for her expertise in enhancing fertility, Jo takes an active, compassionate approach, helping couples and individuals make decisions, manage stress, and enjoy life more while creating their families. She is committed to helping people create both "traditional" and "non-traditional" families. She supports women during assisted cycles as well as pre/post embryo transfer.
Sports Medicine & Pain
Jo Whitsell is trained in Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM), a fusion of Classics-based French-meridian acupuncture with Western physical medicine techniques, most notably trigger point dry needling. She has worked with hundreds of patients in New York including professional artists, dancers, and athletes who have experienced wonderful results by using this incredible technique for both chronic and acute pain.
Native to Portland, Jo Whitsell left in the early 1980's to pursue a career in the arts. She moved to New York City 18 years ago where she earned an MFA at the School of Visual Arts. Running a gallery in Chelsea and being part of the art world was exciting but Jo realized it wasn't her calling. In 2003, she graduated with honors from Tristate College of Acupuncture, one of the oldest acupuncture schools in the nation. She has recently moved back to the northwest and loves being part of the city and its healing community.
Jo is a licensed acupuncturist in Oregon and New York. She is accredited by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. As a continuation of her education, Jo sought out mentorship by several master acupuncturists including Rachel Koenig, L. Ac., CH and Arya Neilsen L. Ac from The Continuum Center for Health and Healing at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City. She has participated in 3 yearlong mentorships with five element practitioner and author Lorie Dechar MS, L. Ac. She holds a Green Medicine certificate and a certificate in Practical Homeopathy for having completed intensive programs with Peeka Trenkle AHG, CCE.
