TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE
Thai Massage has been practiced in Thailand for thousands of years as one of the four main branches of Traditional Thai Medicine. Influenced by both the Ayurvedic traditions of India and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Thai Massage uses acupressure and passive yoga poses to balance and harmonize the energetic and physical bodies of the receiver. Through a series of unique compressions and stretches, Thai Massage brings movement to every joint in order to open up blockages and stagnancies in the body’s circulatory pathways and support the unrestricted flow of energy throughout the body. In Traditional Thai Medicine, this free movement of energy is essential for the creation and maintenance of good physical and mental health.
Combining the therapeutic benefits of massage with the best parts of a yoga class (minus any of the effort!), a Thai Massage session will leave you feeling balanced and relaxed yet alert and re-energized as you release tension, increase flexibility and improve circulation. Each Thai Massage session is uniquely tailored for your specific needs and goals, making it a deeply effective and beneficial modality for all body types and levels of flexibility. If you haven’t yet experienced this incredible style of bodywork, you are in for a treat!
THAI MASSAGE FOR THE CHILDBEARING YEAR
Prenatal Postpartum Fertility
Thai massage is one of the most beneficial and effective forms of massage for women during the childbearing year. Far more then just a relaxing treat, Thai massage combines movement, massage and subtle energy work for a truly holistic experience that supports a mama’s mind, body and spirit during this exciting period of growth and change. Beyond general prenatal and postpartum support and maintenance, Thai massage can also be incredibly beneficial for a variety of challenges that may arise during this time, including fertility issues, postpartum depression, and complicated pregnancies and births. For information about all of Gretchen’s services for mamas and mamas-to-be (including yoga instruction and infant massage), please visit her website www.bijamama.com.

Initially, Gretchen was drawn to Thai Massage through her deep love of yoga and the strong desire to share yoga’s benefits with her community. Through her yoga practice, Gretchen discovered a profound connection with her own body, mind and self – not to mention her community and her planet – that has been one of her most treasured (and ongoing!) gifts in life. When she first encountered Thai Massage, she realized she had stumbled upon the perfect medium through which she could share the unique benefits of yoga with her clients while simultaneously providing all the wonderful gifts of a therapeutic massage. As she explored this new discovery further -through many trips to Thailand to study with different teachers as well as ongoing studies here at home - Gretchen found her true passion in this immensely beautiful and deeply healing style of bodywork.
Gretchen finds great joy in working collaboratively with her clients to discover new levels of freedom and balance in their bodies through effective tailor made treatments. Gretchen truly enjoys working with a diverse clientele to address their unique needs and goals, though she does have a soft spot for the mamas - for whom she has created a variety of specialized services. As a mother herself, Gretchen is deeply grateful for the precious gifts of massage and yoga on her own journey through motherhood and she delights in sharing these sweet practices with other mothers and their families. For more details about her different prenatal and postpartum services, including yoga instruction and massage, you can visit her website – www.gretchenhoguelmt.com.
Gretchen is eternally indebted to the many wonderful teachers who have inspired her practice over the years – particularly master healer Pichest Boonthumme in Thailand and her extraordinary yoga teachers Lisa Mae Osborn, Matt Huish and Tina Lilly (with whom she completed her prenatal yoga apprenticeship). Like so many moms before her, Gretchen has found her greatest teacher in her son Alder, who constantly reminds her that the world is full of wonder if we just take the time to look. |
